The hallmark of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is the Home Visit. Vincentians go in pairs and meet their neighbors in need in their homes, where they are at ease, and feel most comfortable sharing their story. There, we can determine the best way to help, be it with financial assistance to keep utilities running, putting food on the table, help in making rent or providing access to free prescription medications. Every time, the best way we help is by listening, encouraging, and affirming our neighbor.

This personal encounter with them - in their home - is a powerful experience that profoundly impacts both neighbor and Vincentian. It is transformative and relational, the hallmark of what it means to be Vincentian. It is in the home visit that we go to the poor and discover God.
